Michael (‘Mike’) Aymong, MBA – Bio
Michael Aymong serves as the Chairman of WPC Global Group Ventures Inc., a holding company with various global investments in several entities in North America, Asia, Africa and South America.
WPC Global Group wholly owns and operates five individual affiliates: WPC Global Infrastructure, WPC Global Development, WPC Global Mining, WPC Special Opportunities, and WPC Global Mercantile (structured trading).
Mike is the Co-Founder and former Chairman of Asian Coast Development (Canada) Ltd. (ACDL) out of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
ACDL operates as an integrated international development and real estate holding company which currently operates a major development in S.E. Asia. ACDL’s Master Plan includes construction of a 5 phase, 5 star resort. It will include five themed hotels and casinos, luxuriously appointed convention and retail shopping centers, a seaside marina and marine-life habitat, a Greg Norman Signature 18-hole golf course, spa’s, two ferry/cruise ship terminals, and a cultural and theatre district with unique shows tailored specifically for this Asian market. Under Mike’s guidance this spectacular project broke ground in late 2011, and, as of July 2013, has phase I fully operational.
Mike recruited a group of world class advisors which includes; Jean Chretien P.C.Q.C., David Tsubouchi, Glenn Shaeffer, Rob Barbaro, Alfred J. Luciani, Jack Maier , and Ben Soave. In addition, Mike recruited current Chairman of the Board; Bob Wolfe.
Mike assembled a team of partners including Merrill Lynch/Bank of America, Guggenheim Capital, Harbinger Capital, the Paul Steelman Design Group, IMG, Greg Norman, Rider Levett Bucknall , Meinhardt, Page
Kirkland, Cirque du Soleil, Dolphin Quest, MGM, Deloitte & Touché, Price Waterhouse, Heenan Blaikie LLP and Baker McKenzie amongst others strengthening the development of the project.
For the past 20 years, Mike has been successful in several established corporations, turnarounds and startups where he has held senior executive positions in various facets of business including operations, marketing, sales, strategic planning, structured finance and senior general management roles.
Prior to entering the asset management business, Mike served as Executive Chairman of World Gaming plc, a publicly traded, global leader in back office gaming software, headquartered out of London, England with operations internationally.
While at World Gaming, Mike successfully led the turnaround of World Gaming’s Operations including a US$18MM+ yearly loss into a US$2.5MM profit, while resolving highly complex legal, corporate and customer issues. His efforts also led to re- domiciling the company to the UK and an AIM public listing.
Mike was the Executive Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Customer Service for GT Group Telecom. In that role, Mike led this next generation telecommunication service provider’s aggressive nationwide launch leading up to the company’s successful initial public stock offering. Mike held full profit and loss responsibility for the commercial efforts. Mike exceeded Wall Street’s
expectations Q over Q under his leadership.
Prior to Group Telecom, Mike served as acting Vice President Marketing & Sales Support for TELUS Advanced Communications. In that role, he managed the marketing efforts during the company’s merger with BCTEL and participated in the national deployment of TELUS into Eastern Canada.
Before joining TELUS, Mike participated as a senior executive in the capacity of Director of Special Projects (reporting to the CEO and Founder) of MetroNet (AllStream/AT&T Canada); a national competitive local exchange carrier. Mike also assisted with the acquisition of AT&T Canada and was with MetroNet while the stock rose from $21 to $170/share.
Mike earned a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario and holds an honourary Doctor of Laws from Assumption University in Windsor, Ontario.
He has served on numerous private and public company boards, and also participates in several other community, and business organizations. Mike’s family foundation, Brightline “Aymong Trust” focuses on Children and Cultural Development through such organizations as the Vancouver Art Gallery, Contemporary Art Gallery, Arts Umbrella, Strathcona Community Centre, A Loving Spoonful, Vancouver Opera, The Gordon Smith Foundation, and various other charitable organizations.
